Placing non-recyclable plastics (such as PVC, Code 3; polystyrene, Code 6; or greasy food wrappers) in your recycling bin causes contamination. At the sorting facility, non-recyclable plastics must be manually or mechanically extracted. If a load of recycling has a high contamination rate, the facility may reject the entire truckload, forcing it to be processed as expensive general waste. This can lead to unexpected contamination surcharges for your business.
