If glass is placed in general waste, it may be sent to an Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility or another residual waste treatment route instead of being recycled. Because glass is non-combustible, it does not generate useful energy during incineration and instead becomes part of the incinerator bottom ash, reducing the amount of valuable glass that could have been recycled into new bottles and jars.
