Commercial Dry Mixed Recycling for All Types of Businesses

Every business produces recyclable waste, but the type and volume vary by industry. A tailored dry mixed recycling collection service helps businesses recycle more efficiently while keeping recyclable materials separate from general waste and other specialist waste streams.

Healthcare Facilities

Recyclable waste produced in a healthcare facility comes from office spaces, waiting rooms, break areas, and non-clinical activities; this includes paper, cardboard, drink cans, and plastic bottles. It is essential that all your dry mixed recycling is separated from all your clinical, pharmaceutical, hazardous and specialist waste. Please note, This bin is for general paper waste only. Confidential waste must be arranged separately.

Warehouses & Distribution Centres

Warehouses handle substantial quantities of recyclable waste daily: corrugated board, paper products, plastic containers, and metal cans from operations and staff facilities. Collection routines and bin capacities can be adjusted to suit your waste volumes, site layout, and operational requirements.

Retail Stores

Cardboard boxes, paper, rigid plastic packaging, and drink cans from staff areas all contribute to the recycling waste stream for the retail sector. Through scheduled dry mixed recycling collections, you avoid having the above waste taking up space in your stockrooms and back-of-house facilities.

Restaurants & Cafés

Restaurants, cafés, and food businesses produce recyclable materials such as drinks cans, plastic bottles, cardboard packaging, clean food tins, and glass bottles. To reduce contamination, recyclable packaging should be kept separate from food waste and heavily soiled materials. Businesses that generate large volumes of glass may also benefit from a dedicated glass collection service.

Offices

All offices produce a continuous stream of recyclables: paper, card, plastic bottles, drink cans and kitchen/break time food packaging. Dry mixed recycling facilities placed conveniently for employees will help to encourage good practice and keep your office tidy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to separate materials before placing them in a dry mixed recycling bin?

No. Dry mixed recycling bins are designed to collect accepted recyclable materials together, allowing them to be sorted at a materials recovery facility after collection. You should not put any food waste, liquids or other unacceptable items into your dry mixed recycling bins.

Lightly used packaging that has been cleaned or rinsed is generally acceptable, but heavily contaminated items should not be placed in a dry mixed recycling bin. Food residue, liquids, and grease can contaminate other recyclable materials and reduce the quality of the recycling stream.

Contaminated recycling puts the whole truckload at risk, so the bin collector will refuse to empty your bins. Repeated missed collections mean overflowing bins and, in turn, fines from the council. You’d then need to arrange a separate collection for the contaminated bin, usually at a higher cost than a standard one. Follow your waste contractor’s advice and your recycling collection will remain as streamlined as possible.

The right bin size depends on the amount of recyclable waste your business generates, the space available on-site, and how often collections are required. Our team can recommend the most suitable commercial recycling bins based on your operational needs.
Once collected, dry mixed recycling is transported to a materials recovery facility (MRF), where recyclable materials are sorted into separate streams such as paper, cardboard, plastics, and metals. These materials are then sent to specialist recycling facilities for processing into new products.
